This Privacy Policy explains how WordSmith (“WordSmith,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) handles information when you use the service.

1. What WordSmith does

WordSmith is an AI-powered writing assistant that helps users rewrite, refine, and transform text.

2. Information you provide

• text you enter into the app
• passcode information
• messages you send for support, feedback, or abuse reporting

3. How submitted text is processed

When you submit text to WordSmith, that text is sent to our AI service provider in order to generate a result.

WordSmith currently uses OpenAI to process submitted text and return output.

4. What WordSmith stores on its own side

WordSmith does not intentionally store full submitted text or full generated output on its own server as part of normal usage.

However, WordSmith does store limited usage and technical metadata for security, rate limiting, performance monitoring, and cost tracking. This may include:

• a shortened hashed version of your IP address
• selected bot or mode
• rewrite intensity and whether two versions were requested
• character count of submitted text
• request status and error information
• response time / latency
• token usage and estimated cost
• model name used

This information may be stored temporarily in memory and, depending on server configuration, may also be written to server-side files for persistence.

5. What may be stored on your device

WordSmith stores some settings locally in your browser on your device for convenience. Depending on how you use the app, this may include:

• theme preference
• saved passcode
• favorites
• rewrite intensity setting
• two-version preference
• copy mode preference
• draft text, if you enable “Remember my input on this device”

Information stored locally in your browser remains on that device until you clear it or your browser removes it.

6. Why we use information

• generate AI-assisted output
• remember local settings on your device
• enforce rate limits and reduce abuse
• monitor reliability and performance
• estimate and track operating costs
• investigate errors
• respond to support or policy requests
• comply with legal obligations

7. Sharing

We do not sell personal information.

We may share information with third-party service providers that help us operate WordSmith, such as AI providers, hosting providers, infrastructure or monitoring tools, and payment or support providers if you choose to support WordSmith.

8. Support payments

If you choose to support WordSmith, payments are processed by Buy Me a Coffee. We do not store your full payment card details.

Any information you provide during payment is also subject to Buy Me a Coffee’s own terms and privacy practices.

9. Data retention

Usage metadata may be kept for a limited period for service operations, monitoring, troubleshooting, abuse prevention, and cost tracking.

Browser-stored settings remain on your device until cleared.

10. Security

We use reasonable measures to protect the service and the information it handles, but no method of transmission or storage is completely secure.

Please avoid submitting highly sensitive, confidential, or private information unless you are comfortable with that risk.

11. Children

WordSmith is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

12. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we do, we will post the updated version here and revise the effective date.
